Two furniture elements to occupy the same space: a dining table at one end and a coffee table at the other.
Material qualities were suggested; vaque terms such as liquid, irridescent, and interdependence had value for the clients and were to be investigated.
these terms, and a shared interest in certain artists and past designers’ work, gave us a common language for the project.
The dining table has been developed as a marriage between blackened steel and ebonized wood. The interdependence between parts and materials (wood contact surface vs formed steel structure), gives stability and reveals itself on the surface. the impossible intersections between plates becomes an opportunity to introduce a third liquid element - resin, cast into these voids.
For the coffee table, the interdependence is created between a cast top, with integral bowl, and a built up base which keys into the top and receives the bowl.
