N 3rd Street Loft
The project was a phased design-build project for a loft in the Williamsburgh section of Brooklyn. Given the limitations of budget
and the need to work with simplle construction methods, our strategy
for the kitchen and closets was to develop a material and detail
vocabulary of three mateials - mdf (medium density fiberboard),
white peg board, and plexiglas - and three details or motifs -
grooves for sliding elements, slides for drawers, and perforations.
The fixed elements of the kitchen are intentionally neutral to
provide a ground for an assortment of brightly colored cooking
elements, storage units, and sesonally changed accessories. |
